Eating Primal….

There is a growing movement around the world – some might even consider it a revolt – against traditional thinking about what food people should eat to maximize their health. The concept is fairly simple: eat like our ancestors did thousands of years ago.

What did the hunters and gatherers beings eat? Simple, real food like animals, plants, berries and insects. Mark Sisson, author of Primal Blueprint has a wealth of information on primal living on his website Mark’s Daily Apple

Primal eating is a big departure from today’s typical American diet. No sugar, no grains, no processed foods. Take a look in your pantry and most people will find packaged and processed foods, ingredient lists with items that you can’t pronounce and loads of HFCS (high fructose corn syrup).

Personally, I have been eating primal (minus the insects) for the last few months. For me, that meant eliminating all sugar and grains from my diet and adding red meat, pork and chicken after 20+ years as a pseudo-vegetarian. The result? I am leaner, I have more energy and I have eliminated ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ (insulin ups and downs) throughout the day. What’s more? I don’t miss the bad stuff.
